IoT in Daily Life
A Day in the Life with the Internet of Things (IoT)
As technology works to revolutionize our lives, the Internet of Things (IoT) is making a lot of noise. IoT is present everywhere, even though we may not always notice it or be aware that a certain gadget is a member of the IoT. Physical things are being transformed by the Internet of Things (IoT) into an ecosystem of information exchanged by wearable, portable, and even implanted devices, enhancing the technological and data richness of our lives. There are many business applications for IoT. In practically every business, smart machines are altering the when, where, and how of labor. But what does this mean for real-world situations? IoT is a network that has never been seen before that connects devices, people, data, and processes. It is currently influencing real-world activities and how we go about our daily lives.
Examples of how we use the Internet of Things in our everyday lives include:
- Smart appliances (stoves, refrigerators, washers and dryers, coffee machines, slow cookers)
- Smart security systems, smart locks, and smart doorbells
- Smart home hubs (that control lighting, home heating and cooling, etc.)
- Smart assistants (like Amazon Alexa or Apple’s Siri)
- Fitness trackers, sleep trackers, and smart scales
- And more besides
